Mike Bennett has over 40 years’ experience, he commenced his career undertaking a professional apprenticeship with a private firm of public housing contractors. Michael is legally qualified and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Mike has been trained in Expert Witness Evidence, arbitration and mediation.
Mike is skilled in producing successful risk management strategies specialising in client facing solution requirement, troubleshooting specialising in change management, protection of commercial interests and problem resolution. Demonstrating excellent preparation, risk assessment, judgement and closure skills to maintain company reputations and enhance customer satisfaction through stakeholder management
Mike specialises in the preparation, negotiation and settlement of quantum claims for disruption, acceleration and prolongation and in the examination/investigation, rebuttal and settlement of such claims presented by others. He has the ability to quickly get to the root of perceived problems and provide innovative and realistic solutions whilst managing associated risks. In addition, he has the core quantity surveying skills of commercial construction management, contractor/subcontractor procurement, cost planning, cost control, change control and final account settlement and has led teams of up to eighteen commercial staff.
Mike’s experience in construction includes, civil engineering, tunnelling, infrastructure (airports), office developments, hospitals, retail development, oil and gas onshore works and power generation projects gained in the private, local authority and government sectors split between major international engineering contractors and UK national contracting organisations. He has a working knowledge of FIDIC, JCT, ICE, GC/Works/1 and customised contracts and training in NEC3/4.
Mike has extensive experience of dispute resolution at all levels including adjudication, mediation, arbitration, litigation, and negotiated settlement.
He has international experience working closely with legal counsel in the prosecution and defence of loss and expense and extension of time disputes in the Netherlands, Middle East and Australia with a solid background in the UK construction industry.
